Come in to sit down and History Established in 1969 Mr. Dean Harper opened his first fabric store in 1969 in Prairie Village with experience from the corporate world of J.C. Penney. Subsequently he opened 5 more stores in the next 15 years. Our owner, Elaine Johnson, has been involved in some way or another with Harper’s Fabrics since 1980, coordinating classes as well as running several businesses in the shop’s basement. She purchased Mr. Harper’s only store, his first store, in Prairie Village shops in 1994. We are currently located in the shopping district of historic Downtown Overland Park.
